10 Apr After School Sport & Study
We are pleased to announce the start of a new after school activity led by parent volunteers: SPORT & STUDY. Some families have found that their students are more productive completing homework and studying before the evening hours. They are also more motivated to focus on school work after some immediate physical activity and when peers are present. And so the idea for Sport & Study was born. Sport & Study will begin on Tuesday, April 10 and will run Monday through Friday after school. Students who choose to participate will begin with 45 minutes of physical activity, followed by 90 minutes of study or homework time. The program will run from 3:30-5:45pm on MTWF and from 2:30-4:45pmon TH. Students may wish to eat dinner at SPS following Sport & Study. Students or families must notify Chef Dave (email@example.com ) by NOON if the student will be staying for dinner on any particular day. The cost of dinner, $5, will be added to the tuition bill. Following are some expectations for students who choose to participate in Sport & Study.
- Students commit to remaining with the group for the duration of the activity (3:30-5:45 or 2:30-4:45). Students must be accountable during the time of Sport & Study. Students who are late or who do not remain with the group may be asked to leave. This is for their own safety so that we can ensure they are supervised.
- During the study/homework portion of the afternoon, students should work quietly. While they may collaborate with peers on assignments, they must not be disruptive.
- Backpacks should be left in Zigler during the physical activity portion of the afternoon.
- Students may get a snack from the dining hall after school or bring their own. Students may not go off-campus during the time of the activity.
Interested? Please RSVP to Laura Waltrup (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the days your student plans to attend. We are also looking for additional volunteers! Any available volunteer time would be welcomed, even if only the last 30 minutes of one day a week, or as a stand-by fill in if needed. Participating as a parent volunteer will provide an opportunity to get to know other parents and students.
