Archaeological Dig at Dielman Inn

Archaeological Dig at Dielman Inn

Students are invited to participate in archaeological digs at the historic Dielman Inn on the corner of Main and High Street (141 Main Street) in New Windsor, MD. Records show the tavern that eventually became Dielman Inn — founded by New Windsor founder Isaac Atlee — was on the site from 1815 and possibly earlier, growing and expanding over the years. There’s an excellent 6-minute video about the history of the Dielman Inn at www.youtube.com/watch?v=M96fkIqXlpw.

Springdale Preparatory School parents will fill out one permission slip to cover all digs.  The permission form is available in the Student Services Office.

It is appreciated when parents are willing to stay for the dig.  Parents do not have to participate in the actual process.  Please let us know if you plan to stay with your student on-site.

Students should come with the expectation that they will get dirty. They must wear closed-toe shoes and have gardening gloves.

Cataloguing will take place at the New Windsor Heritage Museum for Springdale Preparatory School students.
