20 Nov Dr. Lorraine Fulton Named Deputy Head of School at Springdale Preparatory School
(New Windsor, MD) – Springdale Preparatory School, a college preparatory boarding and day school located New Windsor, Carroll County, Maryland, has announced the addition of seasoned educator Lorraine Fulton, EdD, to its staff as Deputy Head of School.
“While I am truly honored to help lead the development of such a unique globally minded school, it is also an exciting challenge to address the cultural, educational and financial intricacies of providing a truly international experience for all of our students,” says Fulton, who joined Springdale this fall.
Dr. Fulton’s goals mirror the school’s mission of providing a co-educational, multicultural program that enables students to develop skills that promote the values of lifelong learning, innovation and respect. As the school approaches authorization for implementation of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, Dr. Fulton is guiding the schoolwide effort. In addition, she is directing the school through the accreditation process with the National Independent Private Schools Association and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Springdale first opened its doors to students in August 2017.
“We are a young school and completion of these important elements will allow us to establish an even stronger cultural exchange with our partner schools in London, Madrid and Shanghai,” Dr. Fulton explains. “Our College Guidance Program will expand greatly over the next two years, serving as a model program and allowing us to provide college preparation services to students beyond Springdale Preparatory School.”
Dr. Fulton has served Maryland public and private school students during a distinguished 45-year career, primarily in leadership capacities focused on advancing education and pedagogical practice. She served Gerstell Academy in Finksburg for nine years, ultimately rising to the position of President of the school. In addition, she served as Assistant Superintendent for Carroll County Public Schools and Deputy Superintendent as well as Acting Superintendent for St. Mary’s County Public Schools. This followed her service as Supervisor of Fine Arts and Gifted and Talented Education for Wicomico County Public Schools. She began her career in education in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
“We welcome Dr. Fulton to Springdale Preparatory School and the positive energy and experience she brings to the team as we move forward in developing our unique, globally minded program,” says Ashley Yuan, President of Springdale. “Dr. Fulton is an exceptional educational leader who brings to the school more than 40 years of educational leadership and dedication to students in Maryland. Her positive and caring approach has proven successful and we look forward to her guidance in helping to prepare our students for the challenges they will confront in higher education, in their careers and in their personal lives.”
Dr. Fulton completed her Doctorate in Education at the University of Maryland, and she also holds a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction with Administrative Leadership and a second Master’s in school guidance. She resides in Finksburg with her husband, Colin, and has four grown children, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She enjoys gardening and equestrian sports.
