Fifth grade students will continue our study of literary devices through our completion of The Phantom Tollbooth.  Students are working on independent projects in conjunction with the novel.  We are also looking forward to our Battle of the Books celebration on 6:30 pm on Friday, April 20th at McDaniel College.  Our fifth graders have been working diligently to prepare!  Fifth grader students will choose a “game changer” to research and we will be hosting a “living wax museum” for our celebration of learning.
 
In grades 6 and 7, our students have completed a study of Hatchet and are currently presenting research portfolio projects which we will refine in prepartion for our celebration of learning.  In the coming weeks we will revisit powerful paragraph writing and read a variety of short stories, analyzing the elements of a quality narrative. 
 
Upon our completion of The Giver in grades 8 and 9,  students have researched myriad topics relating to the themes of the novel.  In the coming weeks we will read Spinelli’s Stargirl, and revisit quality essay writing. We will refine our research projects for Celebration of Learning. 
 
For our 10th and 11th graders, Steinbeck’s Of Mice and Men will be our culminating novel for this quarter.  We will also refine research project in preparation of our Celebration of Learning!
