Lion’s Club American Heritage Essay Contest

Below is a letter from the local Lion’s Club.  Cash prizes!  Essays are due in December.  Encourage your student to enter!

The New Windsor Lions Club and the Lions Clubs of District 22-W know that
our citizens are more aware and more patriotic than many Americans in the past.
This year, our American Heritage, Preservation and Patriotism essay contest
focuses on the America we have inherited. The New Windsor Lions Club is
sponsoring an essay contest for students.
The American Heritage, Preservation and Patriotism essay topics for 2017-2018
are as follows:
Elementary Grades: What does Liberty mean to me in 21st Century America as
an Elementary School student?
Middle School: What have you learned about American Heritage and its history
in the 21st Century and how will you pass it on?
High School: How is America in the 21st Century different from America in the
previous century and what lessons have been learned?
Essays in each category will be judged by the sponsoring club. The essay
program rules for participation and compliance guidelines are:
• Use 8 1⁄2” by 11” white paper
• Essay must be either typed or computer generated and double spaced.
Handwritten copies will not be read.
• Minimum of 300 words, maximum of 500 words
• Attach a separate cover sheet which includes the following information
• entrant’s name
• entrant’s home address including street, city, state and zip code
• entrant’s home phone number
• name of school or “home schooled”
• name of sponsoring club

Those interested in participating should forward their essays to Lion Larry
Thompson at 1925 Jordans Retreat Road, New Windsor, MD 21776. The
deadline for entry is Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Entries must be sent via
mail with a postmark no later than Dec. 13th.
