13 Oct Science Class Updates
Our 6th and 7th grade class has gotten our silkworms in! We have been learning how to care for them and watching them nearly triple in size! In a few more weeks they will begin to spin their silk cocoons! We also learned about goat’s milk soap. We were able to skype with a goat farmer who is very skilled at making goat’s milk soap. Goat’s milk soap is better for your body and the environment! By using homemade soaps, we can avoid polluting our watersheds with unnecessary and harmful chemicals.
Our Biology students have continued our study on cells and started some experiments to observe osmosis.
Our 8th graders have come up with our initial design plans for our year-long sustainability project. We’ve had some incredibly brilliant plans hatched this week! We are meeting with Mr. Magaha, our engineer on staff, to work through the details of how to create our projects.
Our 5th graders wrapped up our recycling unit. For this unit, we combined forces with the art class to create projects made from recycled materials. We came up with so many ideas of how to use trash in different and more sustainable ways.
