06 Apr Springdale Preparatory School Baseball Program Notches School’s First Interscholastic Victory
NEW WINDSOR, MD (April 5, 2018) – In the first athletic competition in school history, the Springdale Preparatory School baseball team was victorious over Rosedale Baptist School, notching the first win in school history, 13-2.
Behind a solid performance from starting pitcher, Zach Barry, who pitched 5 innings and had 10 strike-outs, Springdale chalked up its first win over Rosedale 13-2. Center fielder, Sean Bittner, using his speed, tracked down a ball in the gap to thwart Rosedale.
“It was a total team effort and an impressive start from a young team that hasn’t played together before and includes several middle school students,” says Head Coach Chris Wooden.
Springdale was aided by patience at the plate, strong pitching, good defense, timely hitting, and smart base-running. The next opponent for the Lions is Carroll Christian School in Westminster, on April 10 at 4:30 p.m., weather permitting.
Wooden, in establishing the school’s first interscholastic team, aims to promote sportsmanship in both winning and losing situations, and an environment of respect and humility.
Realizing that players are impressionable at this age, I want to influence these young men, helping not only to develop them as baseball players, but also to build character, loyalty, and perseverance,`` he says. ``I want them to see that with hard work, discipline, and a positive attitude, they can set and accomplish goals, getting out of the game what they’ve put in. My hope is they will carry what they learn on the field into other life situations.``
