12 Dec Springdale Preparatory School Inaugural Girls Varsity Basketball Program Earns First Tournament Title
(New Windsor, MD) – The Springdale Preparatory School Lions inaugural girls’ varsity basketball team brought home the championship trophy from the Hill School Tournament last weekend in Pottsdown, Pa.
In the opening round, Springdale bested Oldfields School, 57-40. Savannah Brooks led the Lions with 17 points and Libby Kiley added 10. Springdale took the final game against the host school, by a convincing 63-26 margin. Tamyra Timmons led the scoring with 13 points and Kaylah Rodgers, Taylor Towns and Sydnea Parry all added 11.
“The girls deserve this title,” says Coach Brian Chesley, who joined Springdale this summer after 11 years of coaching AAU, high school, middle school and elementary school teams. “They have worked extremely hard since school began and it’s beginning to pay off.”
Springdale’s roster consists of a mix of experienced players, including Parry, a senior from New Windsor, five juniors, and two sophomores, including standout Brooks, and two eighth grade players.
The young Lions boast a 2-1 record in the young season. They will travel to Washington, D.C., this weekend for the She Got Game Tournament, before the holiday break. The schedule resumes in January at Archbishop Spalding on Jan. 3 and St. Timothy School on Jan. 9. The Lions will host their first ever home game on January 16 at 5:30 p.m. when they take on Linden Hall School from Lititz, Pa.
