04 Oct Town Council Meeting
The Town of New Windsor has been hosting a “Shadow” Town Council meeting for several years. This shadow town council meeting will be on Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 PM at the Community Meeting Room. The Council allows 10 middle school students to shadow the mayor, 5 council members, town manager, clerk/treasurer, secretary/receptionist, town attorney, and potentially the Deputy. They will be given a script to read reports from the person they are shadowing, make motions, second motions, and vote. The student who shadows the secretary/receptionist will be allowed to intern at town hall any time from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm and then give a report on what they experienced and learned. To get a better understanding of this meeting, please go to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSjdFt69DLc&t=11s to watch last year’s meeting. Several SPS students participated last year. There will be a big contract to vote on and award to a successful bidder at this meeting. It’s the re-construction of College Avenue and Blue Ridge Avenue. With these streets next to the Main Street campus, they will see the progress of their vote on this project. This is a great learning experience for the students and a great opportunity for community outreach. It will also be taped by the Community Media Center, aired on cable and placed on YouTube. It can be an opportunity for bragging rights around the campus for those that get to be selected. This meeting is used by the town to continue being a “Banner Town” through the Maryland Municipal League. The application is due October 31.
