This week in Science class

This week in Science class

Ms. Lutton has thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the students these past few weeks.

In 5th grade Science, we have been studying the layers of the Earth, continents, oceans, and the connection between Earth’s motion and the concept of time and time zones. Students reluctantly sang a song about the crust and mantle (inner core, outer core) during class!

In 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Science, students have been studying the phases of matter and begun a unit on atoms and elements. They are learning as well about the Periodic Table of Elements and the properties of various elements. Next week: models of molecules and certain elements.  Our 8th grade students will be diving into these topics in more detail.

In Biology, students have been studying binomial nomenclature and taxonomy (classification of animals) using the dichotomous system.  They have learned about the Biosphere 2 project in Arizona and started studying biomes, ecosystems, and population dynamics. Students will be working on short PowerPoint presentations of different assigned biomes this week.
